Strip the Willow (longways)

Also known as  Orcadian Strip the Willow, Drops of Brandy
Formation: Longways, whole set
Difficulty:  1
Style:  Scottish

Top couple turns or spins for a bit, then each works down the opposite line (ie of the people of the opposite sex) turning side person LH, partner RH, next side person LH, ...
When 1st couple reach the bottom, they spin to the end of the phrase, then join the side lines.
Next top couple starts when there's enough room to do so.

The rule is: right arm to partner, left to everyone else; if someone offers you the wrong arm, take it and don't fuss.

With a very long line this version is a bit tedious, because nothing much happens on the side lines.  Better to break the set up.

Callers note: this dance isn't phrased.  Start them off and hope.

Music:  Anything brisk.  Slips jigs such as Drops of Brandy are often used, but ordinary jigs and reels work just as well.
Thumbnail:  Strip the willow both sides at once.
